Hear the Trees Falling ?

Its been six months that i took an oath to myself that il stop using plastic & ever since then I stopped using plastic , I started carrying my own eco-friendly bag to super markets .....

I started this blog to educate people around me about the ill effects of using plastic & how planting trees helps our environment ...

Trees are important, valuable and necessary to our very existence. It's not too hard to believe that, without trees we humans would not exist on this beautiful planet. Trees are essential to life as we know it and are the ground troops on an environmental frontline. Our existing forest and the trees we plant work in tandem to make a better world....

Save Earth!!!!

1. Reduce Toxic waste, Use Recyclable/Bio degradable:

Use Less plastic, dispose properly for recycling. Use Bio Degradable materials whereever possible.

2. Conserve Natural Resources:

Consume less water, turn off tap when not used. Reduce the paper usage, print double side.

3. Conserve Energy: Power/ Hydro carbons:

Reduce the power consumption by switching to Energy saving options like compact florescent bulbs, inkjet printers, TFT Panels and energy saving modes. Use economical travel options, shared mode/ Public Transport. Turnoff Lights, monitors, Air conditioning whenever not being used.

4. Safe disposal:

Dispose all waste properly, safely.

5. Plant Trees:

Please grow Trees & do not cut them down . Plant a tree save a life - Let the tree grow Cherish the life

6. Build Awareness:

Build Awareness about environment protection conservation of resources which is need of the hour.

MY EARTH MY DUTY

Change is the only constant’, climate change is one phenomenon the entire human race is trying to halt, or at least slow down.

Temperature on Earth is rising due to global warming, and it is rising very speedily. Erratic climates and bizarre weather phenomena are becoming the norm of the day. Temperatures in cities are gradually rising.


While the planet might be able to bear the impact of the changing climate, the human race will find the coming years the toughest ever to survive. Not just the changing climate, but its consequences too will affect every human being. While 200 million to 250 million people alone would get displaced by 2050 due to natural disasters triggered by the changing climate, the conflicts and migration that would start as a result of climate change would impact an uncountable number of people

'My Earth, My Duty’, campaign is such a social initiative aimed at engaging various members of society to sensitize and encourage them to take concrete action towards mitigating the effects of Climate Change.

Launched on June 5'2010 (Environment Day), led by ZEE News ltd. The Climate change and environment have been key to the survival of the humanity and hence this campaign is being themed as one of the mass awareness initiative aimed at motivating people to bring about behavioral change to fight the menace of the climate change and environmental degradation and more importantly the roles that each one of us can play saving our Mother Earth.

The campaign is being drawn up as an innovative one from all conceivable aspects and has been designed in such a way that it should reach a sizeable population effectively across the nation. Many of the interactive sessions and collaborative activities related to the campaign would be run on the Zee News Ltd channels....

"CHILKUR TEMPLE SAYS NO 2 PLASTIC"

2day iv been 2 Chilkur Balaji temple know for its unique "hindu tradition" & "no vip darshan" & its really nice 2 know that the temple authorities banned the use of polythene in temple premises , coconuts are sold in eco friendly handloom bags .....

The scheme got all the encouragement from the State government and Apco which supplied the handloom scrap at

80 per cent subsidy for making the bags.

“The decision to meet the objectives of helping the traditional handloom weavers and doing our bit to protect environment by eliminating non bio-degradable plastic bags, evoked cooperation from devotees and vendors,” said temple hereditary trustee and Protection of Temples Movement convenor M.V.Soundar Rajan. Dr. Soundar Rajan said that over 100 vendors who sell ‘puja’ material on the temple premises switched over to handloom bags.

The temple attracts about 6,000 devotes on normal days and 15,000 to 20,000 devotees on week-ends and its annual consumption of handloom cloth is around two lakh metres.

Apart from Apco, the cloth is also sourced from Sircilla Handloom Weavers Society directly without any subsidy and is given to the ‘Mahila Pranganam’ members to stitch the bags.

If government extended the subsidy scheme to other cooperative societies, the cost of bags can be further brought down.

Little crusader on ‘green' mission

Eight-year-old Manikya Srivatsa from Bharatiya Vidya Mandir High School in Udhampur (Jammu) was the youngest delegate at the "All India Oriental Conference" organised by RSVP

Ask him on the consequences of indiscriminate tree-felling or on deliberately polluting the surroundings, he is ever ready to give an elaborate lecture. For eight-year old Manikya Srivatsa, environment protection is a very serious topic and the concern is too conspicuous on his face to be missed.

Manik, for short, was the youngest delegate at the 45th session of All India Oriental Conference (AIOC), organised by Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha here during the last three days, where he presented a paper on ‘Environmental awareness in the Vedic prayers', under the session on Vedas.

A student of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir High School in Udhampur (Jammu), Manik laid emphasis on the combination of spiritual and scientific development through prayers, especially the chanting of the hymns that leave a special effect on the environment. “The local environmental conditions depend on biodiversity conservation,” he asserted, quoting a sloka by Veda Vyasa.

His concern for environment broadened as a result of his active participation as a ‘cub volunteer' in Bharat Scouts and Guides, Jammu and Kashmir chapter. Narrating the ill-effects of smoking, consuming liquor and drugs on the human brain and explaining how it could lead to a fall in character, the little delegate saw Yoga, meditation and ‘Pranayama' as the right therapy to get rid of the vices. During the convention, he also launched a signature campaign on environment preservation, rainwater harvesting, child labour, female foeticide, literacy and protection of plants and animals.

World Environment Day 2010 - “Biodiversity — Ecosystems Management and the Green Economy”


We, human beings, behave as if we own this lone blue planet EARTH. But we must not forget the fact that we are just one of several million species taking shelter on this planet, however important we consider ourselves to be. It is estimated that about 2 million species call Earth their home.The interesting statistics is that it is just one species-Homo sapiens - whose population keeps soaring at a steady pace while that of most animals and plants keeps dwindling. It is crucial to remember this on this World Environment Day (WED) of 2010, which also happens to be the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB).

Realizing the importance of biodiversity for human welfare.UNEP has decided to reinforce the global efforts toward biodiversity conservation.. This clearly reflects this years WED theme ....

Beginning of the World Environment Day :
World Environment Day which is a world-famous event was founded by the UN General Assembly in 1972. Nearly, 100 nations around the globe celebrate this event. This event commemorates every year on June 5th.


The theme of "WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2010" IS "MANY SPECIES - ONE PLANET - ONE FUTURE"

Around 17,000 species are now threatened with imminent extinction. The more alarming fact is that many species are getting extinct before they are even discovered. Why biodiversity is being lost at an alarming rate? This may be caused by various factors but the major one is human activities involved in various developmental projects. We have cleared substantial portions of original forests, drained half of the world's wetlands, depleted 75% of global fish stocks and emitted tons of greenhouse gases(GHGs) to warm up the planet to alarming levels. We have accelerated extinction of species by 1000 times of natural rates.

Why should we care?
Biodiversity is the variety of all life forms on the earth and it underpins human well-being and the very survival of human species. It gives us food, clothes, fuel, medicines, and various other goods and ecosystem services. The loss of just one strand(one species) of the web of life can have catastrophic effects which in turn can imperil human welfare.

UNEP has identified 6 environmental challenges of the 21st century. They are:

" Environmental governance
" Harmful substances
" Resource efficiency

World Environment Day Celebrations and Activities in 2010 :

The World Environment Day Celebrations will be held on Friday, June 5, 2010. Pittsburgh has been selected by UNEP as the host city for World Environment Day 2010 in North America.

In Pittsburgh, World Environment Day events taking place during the six weeks that “bridge the gap” between Earth Day on April 22 and World Environment Day on June 5.

At local level we need 2 maintain sustainable & organic environment in HYDERABAD
The other day i read in newspaper that SCB is all set to ban PLASTIC BAGS . Lets welcome this measure & stop using plastic bags
